Angle Beam Transducers allow the sound beam to be introduced into the test material at an angle. Plastic wedges of controlled geometry are attached to the transducer active element in order to establish the desired angle. Sonatest wedges are precision engineered to produce a refracted shear wave within the test object at specific angles. Frequent applications include weld testing, forgings, castings, shafts, cracks - radial and corrosion.

High Temperature Shear Wave - HSA

  • High temperature shoe.
  • Continuous operation at maximum of 100°C.
  • Itermittent operation up to 220°C (20 seconds contact and then cool).

Dual Shear Wave - CDA Metric & Imperial

  • Captive screws for attaching to wedge.

Wedge features

  • Wedge beam shear wave contact probe.
  • Attached by screws to MSR, MSG and PMS transducers. 1-64 threaded holes.
  • Axial and circumferential ID or OD profiling available.

Standard Shear Wave Transducers - SSR, SSG or PSS

  • Single angle beam shear wave contact probe.
  • Rectangular lead metaniobate titanate crystal.
  • Medium damped for medium bandwidth (SSR).
  • Low damped for narrow bandwidth (SSG).
  • Composite crystal for wide bandwidth (PSS).
  • Attached by screws to SW or SNW wedges.
  • AWS structural weld code style.

Frequent applications include: Critical Welds, General Welds.

Miniature Angle Beam Potted - MAP & PMAP

  • Screw thread for quick change use with threaded QW wedges.
  • Platinum Series has circular composite crystal.
