Cheaters? Not Anymore
10th December 2024
Philippe Rioux, Sonatest
Are you tired of managing and controlling exam security? Nobody likes to witness data falsification when people put in loads of effort for their success while others may have cheated at the same time.
It is never fun to deal with and terminate the certification exam. Lately, the Sonatest Wave software may prevent this type of situation. Let’s see what recent safety features have been added in Wave v2.1.
Exam Context
It is quite hard to avoid all cheating events. The risk of being caught is high, but unfortunately, sometimes people prefer to put some reasonable effort into cheating techniques rather than real UT experience.
There are many sources of cheating, especially nowadays because of the device connectivity features and inspection advanced helping tools. The examiner can address many of them directly, but extra safety software features are welcome to stop human fraud.
Table 1 - Sources for Cheaters
Saved configurations from previous exams
Reporting PDF information saved from past coupon/sample recordings
Connected instrument to transfer and unlock the full default features access
A-scans and scan plan snapshots from previous exams
Feature advantages (Interactive scan plan tool for example)
Save defects data to share to further exams
How Our Exam Apps are Safe
Software tools have been implemented to prevent all the above situations:
- Block all saving functions
- Interactive scan plan can be locked out
- Locked the snapshot button
- Impossible to create reports
During Exam Mode
- Unique ID app
- Timer controls
- Bell rings if the Exam Mode has been force-quitted
- No other apps are available
- Ethernet and Wi-Fi are both disabled
Of course, the person supervising the exam must validate the ID of each student or participant. There are some human factors that still can’t be fully controlled by a software feature. However, all tools are in place to cheating as much as possible. The Sonatest Wave has always been a feature-rich instrument—and it has not stopped being improved for inspections of all kinds, including exam sessions.
